About Job

The Journals Publishing Manager is part of the Editorial team, and directly manages a set of society and Wiley-owned journals in the social sciences and humanities. The Journals Publishing Manager also provides input to the Senior Journals Publishing Manager, Publisher, and the wider team on markets and trends, works on new business opportunities, and helps prepare reports that provide information to support internal and external strategy decisions.

You’ll need to be well-organized, independent, and able to quickly learn new systems and processes. A flexible, collaborative approach is essential, both for team efficiency and to deliver excellent service to Wiley’s clients. This is a great opportunity to develop your career in publishing. Wiley is a global organization which offers career progression and personal development.

The Editorial Team is a client-facing team, handling administrative, contractual, and strategic aspects of publishing related to journals, and does not include copyediting nor hands-on peer review.

How you will make an impact:

  • Pro-actively manage own set of journals across social sciences and humanities fields, ensuring that contractual and financial obligations are met, relationships with editors and societies are successfully managed, and contracts negotiated and renewed, particularly as Wiley’s SSH titles transition to Open Access models.
  • Act as a liaison point between external stakeholders (editors, society executives) and colleagues, dealing with queries independently on a broad range of matters, and supporting academic editors and society officers. Coordinate workflows with other departments and individuals as appropriate, following up to make sure questions and concerns are addressed.
  • Work with the Publisher, Senior Journals Publishing Manager, and Associate Journals Publishing Manager on the wider portfolio of SSH journals, contributing to research and analysis of key markets and trends and assisting with reports that support internal and external strategy decisions. Work with the Publisher, Senior Journals Publishing Manager, and Associate Journals Publishing Manager on new business opportunities.
  • Provide regular data and analytics to clients and internal colleagues using the various databases available (QlikSense, Web of Science, InCites). Liaise with editors and societies and communicate the context and information to external stakeholders.
  • Work with other departments (Content Review, Content Transformation, Marketing and Sales, Finance, Customer Services) to ensure proper editorial management and excellent client service.
  • Ensure journal homepages on Wiley Online Library are kept up to date, working with the Associate Journals Publishing Manager to make website updates, entering any new data, amending features, analyzing usage, creating special features pages, linking to social networking sites, editing podcasts, and compiling virtual issues. Maintain and update data in central information systems and take overall responsibility for the integrity of editorial data in the Wiley systems for those journals with which you work.
  • Work with the Accounts Payable team to ensure payments and invoices are made according to schedule. Organize meetings, attending and taking minutes where appropriate, supervising catering arrangements, processing payment of expenses.
