The NJCHS is seeking an Associate to work in close partnership with the Executive Director raising awareness of the important role that the judicial system plays in our society. The successful candidate will bring their creativity, attention to detail, and passion to the work of the Society by designing outreach and other materials, building and supporting our programs, and strategizing additional ways to promote the work of the Society. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Communications & Design:

  • Design newsletters to send to members
  • Design print and digital collateral materials
  • Generate and publish content to social media platforms
  • Maintain WordPress website including creating and supporting webpages for key events, programs, and fundraising initiatives
  • Oversee/Assist with the production process for the bi-yearly publication of our journal, Western Legal History, including organizing copy flow, formatting, proofreading, and identifying photographs to accompany articles.


  • Conceptualize and create wide variety of program materials
  • Strategize additional opportunities to raise the profile of the Society
  • Act as liaison with other organizations and speakers to coordinate events
  • Provide logistical support related to special events
  • Run Zoom webinars for virtual events

Development & Administrative Support:

  • Coordinate tracking and reporting of payments, sponsorships, and membership dues
  • Maintain membership database (Little Green Light) updating and tracking memberships
  • Maintain accounts payable/receivable and compile other relevant financial materials
  • Track project budgets for special events such as our Annual Gala


  • You have 1-2 years of experience in a project coordination and communications role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with a variety of technology systems, and ability to troubleshoot and research solutions when needed
  • Experience working in Google Suite, Zoom, Excel, WordPress and Mailchimp
  • Experience with Microsoft Word macros
  • Talent for graphic design (Canva)
  • Working with nonprofits, foundations, and/or government agencies is a plus
  • Experience working with a CRM system (Salesforce, LGL etc.) is a plus

  • The NJCHS has a very small staff, so you are highly organized, a team player, flexible, and thrive in a fast-paced work environment where you have real responsibility in a supportive environment
  • You are an effective communicator and a proactive problem solver
  • Familiarity with the role of the judiciary a plus

Position Details

  • Start date: February 2022.
  • This is a full-time position. Due to Covid-19, we are primarily working remotely. The expectation is that the Communications and Programs Associate will return to the office in San Francisco, California, when safety protocols allow, but for the right candidate, the position could remain partially or fully remote.
  • Salary commensurate with experience
