The Century Foundation (TCF) is a progressive think tank on the frontlines of building a fairer and more equal economy, one where everyone can get ahead. In recent years our team has helped deliver an historic expansion of unemployment benefits, lift 3 million children out of poverty through an expanded Child Tax Credit, advance women’s economic justice, launch a new project on disability economic justice, and protect the most vulnerable workers among us.

Now, our team is expanding, and seeks a Economic Policy and Research Fellow to conduct research, develop data products/visualizations, and publish reports that promote economic, disability, and gender justice. The Fellow will work closely with three Senior Fellows and focus on bringing quantitative data analysis to TCF’s research and advocacy on a set of critical topics, including disability economic justice, the care economy, unemployment, work and family issues, equal pay, and racial equity in workforce development and manufacturing jobs.

The position is based in either TCF’s Washington, D.C. or New York office. Remote candidates will also be considered for this position. TCF offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a host of benefits.

Qualifications:

  • Policy or research experience in relevant economic, racial, gender, and/or disability issues
  • A keen understanding of economic policy and how to apply research methods to critical questions
  • Demonstrated aptitude in quantitative and data analysis, including detailed analysis of microdata with statistical packages such as R or Stata
  • Prior experience with Census data sets such as the Current Population Survey and the SIPP, and familiarity with sources of labor market and population data
  • Experience using data visualization and GIS statistical packages, such as Tableau or ArcGIS, is a plus 
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, including for both expert and popular audiences
  • Strong attention to detail, project management, coordination, and organizing abilities
  • Strong commitment to progressive policy change, public service, and improving economic security, equity, opportunity, and mobility 
  • Savvy with social media a plus
  • 5+ years experience 
  • Graduate degree preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Produce original analysis of data, including graphs, charts, tables, and narrative to inform policy discussions, illustrate the impact of policy proposals, and make complicated issues more compelling
  • Develop data visualizations and online data projects, including maps and scoreboards using Tableau
  • Run microdata analysis using CPS and other Census data sets
  • Author, coauthor, and contribute to research and policy papers, including commentary pieces and op-eds about timely debates
  • Coordinate and conceptualize the work of outside authors on projects
